Affordable Interior Decoration Ideas For Your Apartment

Buying your home in a vibrant city is like a dream come true. But as an amateur, turning your empty house into an inviting place can be misleading. You may have a rough idea of what you want in your first apartment, but your wallet may not support your vision. Also, as you get limited space in an apartment, you may not fit into everything you wanted. While decorating your first apartment, you need to focus on meeting your essential needs while maintaining a decent attitude. As you have to stay indoors for the rest of your life, make sure that its decorative accents reflect your taste and personality. In this write-up, we have shared some simple tips for decorating your apartment.

1) Invest in multi-functional furniture units

As apartment spaces are limited, instead of decorating your home with bulky, luxurious furniture units, you should buy multifunctional fixtures. Furniture such as sofas-cum-beds, diwan beds, and coffee table cum bookshelves help you create a clutter-free minimalist interior. The practice of matching pieces of furniture for the living room and bedroom is more; you can also try odd pieces. But whatever furniture you choose should go well with the overall interior plan.

2) Opt for neutral wall colors

Instead of painting your home in dark and bright colors, you should paint the walls in a neutral shade, such as off-white, light pink, sky blue, or light green. The light colors of the wall paint reflect more light in the room and go well with both modern and traditional furniture units. In addition, it produces a more energetic feel.

3) Use vertical space smartly

When it comes to decorating a small apartment, the sky is the limit. But make sure you use the space properly. You should focus on creating a more functional space while maintaining a clutter-free approach. To give your apartment a minimalistic and clutter-free look, you should focus on using more vertical space and less floor area.

4) Use mirrors smartly

Hanging a mirror and using mirrored accessories is a great way to create a feeling of greater spaciousness. In addition, mirrors can be used excellently to diffuse more daylight in the home and create a luxurious aura. They are an excellent accessory for the dining room, living room and bedroom.

5) Option to look green, nature friendly

The main purpose of creating a green interior is to improve indoor air quality. According to Vastu Shastra, the color green is considered to invite balance and harmony in the house. To achieve this, you must use hardwood furniture as they last for years and also feel fresh. Also, avoid plastic and synthetic things at home. Instead of using synthetic carpets, use cotton carpets. Also, try to keep everything from curtains to walls, ceilings, green or blue curtains. Also, instead of placing miniature sculptures for decoration, you should choose indoor plants.

You Should Know Before Buying Vastu Compliant House

The ancient science of Indian architecture, Vastu Shastra places great emphasis in choosing the right direction of the house, the size of the plot, air and ventilation to help the residents live a happy, healthy and prosperous life. Although most Indians still look for Vastu-compliant homes, the truth is that not all apartments follow the principles of Vastu Shastra. Rather, real estate developers in India only focus on optimal use of space. But many builders promise to provide architectural-friendly flats. Well, your decision to buy a house should not be influenced by attractive advertisements by real estate developers. Rather, you should flat check whether everything is designed perfectly. In this blog, we've shared some excellent tips to help you test whether a flat is Vastu-compliant.

1) Check the entrance or Main door.

By the way, most people think that the north-eastern entrance is the best, but there are actually 32 entrances in Vastu Shastra. And each direction has its own importance. East, west and north-facing entrances are always good. But south facing doors can either be extremely beneficial for housework.

· The main gate should not be in the southwest, northwest and southeast.
· While most Vastu experts suggest that northeast entrance is most beneficial.
· Others say that it can be extremely dangerous in some cases.
· The main gate should not be placed directly in front of the lift or stairway.

2) Kitchen Location.

· The kitchen should be in the right direction to balance the fire element of the house. Fire signifies wealth and cash flow.
· Having a kitchen in the north-east and south-west areas should be avoided.
· Vastu Shastra suggests that the kitchen should be kept in the south-east direction. However, this may not always be possible in modern homes. In such a case, make sure that the gas burner is in the south, west or northwest corner of the flat. And, while cooking, you should face east or north.
· The kitchen should not have black or blue tiles, floors or slabs. And, avoid granite under the gas burner. A marble slab is highly recommended.
· The cabinet should be placed on the southern wall.

3) The rooms.

· The master bedroom should be in the southwestern direction of the flat. And, the children's room should be in the east or north direction.
· The living room should be either in the east area or central area of the house.
· There should be no bedroom between the east and south-east area of the house as it may affect the health of family members.
· Bedrooms on the southern and western side are to be used by sons and are perfect for daughters who are on the northwest side.

4) Toilet or Bathroom.

· Modern homes have one or more toilets, which are connected to a bedroom or living room. Ideally, the washroom should be in the northwest direction. And, toilets in the north, north-east, south-east, and south-west directions are considered inauspicious.
· The bathroom or toilet door should not be faced in the kitchen.

General points you should know when purchasing property:-

· The land on which your apartment is built must be either rectangular or square in shape. Irregular shaped plots are considered inauspicious.
· There should be no pond near the south and west direction from the house. You should check if there is any swimming pool in these directions of your flat.
· Avoid balconies or courtyards in the western or southern direction.
· Apartments in red, black or sky colors should be avoided as these colors attract negative energy.
· The puja room should be either in the northern or eastern direction.
· According to the guidelines of Vastu Shastra, the ladder should not be in the north-east corner as it troubles the residents.
· The total number of doors and windows should be 2,4, 6 etc.
· All the doors of the flat should open inwards.

Know the difference between Porches, Balcony, Verandas, Patios and Deck

A well-designed outdoor is a lucky circumstance for all homes and all seasons. Some of us have balconies, other decks, porches, patties or verandas. While most of us have a penchant for swapping these terms (and for believing that they all have the same meaning), they each have their own character and specifications.

Porches: They are generally low and covered structures, which are located in the entrance of the building. Porches can be both: open structures without windows; or covered interior expansions that protect the home from asymmetrical weather conditions. Their roofs provide shade; This is why porches are the perfect area for relaxation during summer; Nevertheless, porches differ in different parts of the world, both in function and look.

Balcony: It is an exterior extension of the upper floor of the building; on average one meter-enclosure (railing, ballasters, etc.). Balconies can be made from any solid and good-looking material; There is no strict rule. The balconies provide outdoor areas for various activities; Especially for apartment owners who lack the satisfaction of having a personal yard.

Verandas (also known as verandas): Stand for all sorts of enclosed platforms around the house. In fact, they play the role of a ground floor balcony, such as provides access around the house and both sides of the back door of the house. While the verandas is mostly an open area and can be used for all types of outdoor activities.

Patios: They represent living space outside your home, either a proper garden or a basic rest area. Depending on their size, the patios can be both attached and open. They are usually made of brick, concrete, stone, gravel or flagstone. Usually, the courtyards are attached to the house but again it all depends on your needs, desires and possibilities.

Deck: A deck is usually a roofless platform connecting a house. The decks are usually made of wood and are elevated from the ground. This may include places to sit, food as well as BBQ. The deck is usually covered by a railing. In some cases, the deck may also be covered by a pergola or canopy.

Such places can be found in both residential and commercial buildings; And are preferred due to the remarkable urban landscape they provide. This trend is becoming so popular that construction companies have begun to specialize in the design of these modern outdoor havens.

Vastu Shastra tips for the most door / entrance / main gate

According to Vastu Shastra, the door of a house is not solely for the purpose of entry for the family, but for energy. “The main gate can be a transition zone, through which we tend to enter the house, from the outside world. This is an area from which happiness and wisdom enter the destiny house,”says Nitin Parmar, a Mumbai based architectural authority.

“Consequently, the most entrance has been accorded prime importance, because it allows or keeps out the cosmic energy flow that promotes health, wealth and harmony. Moreover, most door conjointly creates the primary impression of a house,” he points out.

Apart from being aesthetically appealing, most of the doors / entrances of the house should be in the right direction, according to Vastu Shastra, to attract positive energy into the house.

The direction of the most door

“The main gate should be within the north, north-east, east or west, as these direction area units are considered auspicious. Avoid having the most doors in the south, south-west, north-west (north-facing), or south-east (east-facing) directions. The inner door to the south or southwest will be corrected by placing it in a metal pyramid and lead helix. The doors within the northwest would be fixed with brass pyramids and brass helixes, while a door within the south-east direction would be corrected using a copper helix,”explains Parmar.

The main door should be larger than the other doors within the house and it will open in a clockwise manner. Avoid having 3 doors during a row, parallel to most doors, as this is considered to be an important architectural flaw and can have an effect on happiness within the home.

Materials used for the most door:

  •    An entrance gate is considered the most auspicious for most entrances.
  •    Mixture South Direction: Must be a mixture of wood and metal.
  •    West: Metal should work.
  •    Color North Gate: Must be extra silver color.
  •    Ex: Must be a wood product and adorned with restricted metal accessories.

Vastu dos and don’ts for the most door

  •   There is always a bright light-weight at the door but avoid the red light.
  •    Most doors should be well lit within the evening.
  •    Mostly put a mirror in front of the door.
  •    Plants If there is an area, beautify the door with inexperienced plants.
  •    Most gates should open at ninety degrees, with no obstructions.
  •    Ensure that the hinge area unit frequently and the door accessories area unit polished oil.

There should be no broken wood or missing screws at the entrance. Further nails should be removed.

Always keep the reputation plate. A metal name plate is usually recommended if the door is in the north or west direction. Use a picket nameplate, if the door is in the south or east direction.

Upcoming year Griha Pravesh Dates and Timing for 2020 or Griha Pravesh Muhurat / Vastu Shastra 2020

Griha pravesh Muhurats are calculated on the basis of dates (Tithis), Days, Lagna and Nakshatras.

Home entrance ceremony or home entrance is an important moment in a person's life. This is because, when it comes to property investment, property buyers are generally particular about auspicious days. It is believed that organizing a Griha Pravesh ceremony on an auspicious day brings good luck.

Griha Pravesh as per Vedic Text

According to Vedic beliefs, the month of Magha, Phalguna, Jyeshtha, and Vaisakha is best for the Griha pravesha Muhurat.

Home building ceremonies are prohibited during the four months or Chaturmas, such as Ashadha, Shravana, Bhadrapada and Ashwin. It is believed that all the deities including Lord Vishnu rest during this period. Apart from these months, Paush month is also considered inauspicious for home entry.

Homework can be done on all other days of the week, except Tuesday. However, in some exceptional situations, it is forbidden to enter a new house on Sundays and Saturdays.

Shukla paksha's Dvitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi and Trayodashi are considered auspicious for home grown celebrations, except Amavasya and Poornima.

Types of Griha Pravesh are:-

It is believed that a Home warming ceremony or Griha pravesha is done to enter the new house, which is wrong. According to Vastu Shastra, there are generally 3 types:

Apoorva: When someone enters their new house to live, it is called Apoorva Griha.

Sapoorva: If a person lives in some other place and leaves his house empty due to some issues. Then, after some time when they return to their house, it is called Sapoorva Griha Pravesh.

Dwandhav: If a person has to leave his house helpless due to natural disaster. Then, he has to do the Griha pravesha Puja Vidhan to stay in his old house. This is known as the duel house.

Home Entry AfterComplete Construction (Home Construction Work)

Occasionally, it has been observed that people enter their under-construction house. According to Hinduism, this activity is not considered correct and some rituals need to be followed before homecoming. Such as:

With complete construction of the roof of the house, avoid entering the home until the main door is placed in your new house. After homecoming, try not to lock your main door as it is considered inauspicious.

Tips for entering your new home

  • Always enter home on auspicious day. The idols should be placed in the east direction of the house.
  • To cleanse and purify the place, wipe the floor of the house with salt.
  • When entering the house, always place the right foot first.
  • The main gate should be decorated with mango leaves and fresh flowers, as it is called the lion gate and is the face of the Vastu Purush.
  • Rangoli on the floor is believed to invite Goddess Lakshmi. Decorate the floor with rangoli using vibrant colors.

Akshaya Tritiya is the best time to ceremonialize your new home, as this day is considered an auspicious day. This is also the right time to buy or invest a property, as property dealers offer a variety of discounts, schemes and freebies to entice customers.
